It might be (almost) Tuesday, but almost monday are dreaming of beach weekends in “life goes by,” their latest single released this past Friday (July 12) via Holiday Records. And, hailing from California, the pop-rock trio clearly know a thing or two about a beach day.
Inspired by the surf-rock legends of yore and more recent contemporaries like Circa Waves and Sundara Karma, the band employs their standard breezy guitars and open production on this follow-up to last year’s “sunburn,” contributing to an impressive — if still budding — discography.
“The days go by and the clock is tickin’ / Take me to the beach ’cause I wanna dip in,” sings lead vocalist Dawson Daugherty on the track. Further cementing the summer daydream nature of the single, almost monday encouraged fans via Twitter to “grab some friends and listen loud with ur windows down.”
If the carefree vacation motif weren’t obvious enough, almost monday accompanied the release with a season-appropriate music video, featuring the band frolicking on the beach, surfing, and basking in a cloudless sky. Check it out to help pass the time when you inevitably wait in Cape traffic.
almost monday are now gearing up for a cross-country stateside run with Weathers early next month. The closest they’ll skirt to Boston is a show in Hartford, August 22 at Webster Theater, but they’re sure to find a beach or two along the way to dip in.
