Metric take us to their ‘regret disco’ with the technicolor ‘Just The Once’

Metric are back, and they’re not only taking us to the dance party, but delivering us to their very own ‘regret disco’ (quite possibly a healthy upgrade from the “Dead Disco” of 20 years ago). The celebrated Canadian band dropped technicolor alt-pop single “Just The Once” this past Friday (July 7), and it comes with distinctive word of a forthcoming album called Formentera II, out October 13 via Thirty Tigers.

“And the track pops. “Just The Once” sure does pop.

“The only way I can describe ‘Just The Once’ is to call it ‘regret disco’. It’s a song for when you need to dance yourself clean,” says Emily Haines. “Beneath the sparkling surface, there’s a lyrical exploration of a simple word with many meanings. Once is a word that plays a game of opposites. Once can mean once-upon-a-time and refer to a moment in the past, or it can mean someday, once something happens. And as for doing something only once versus doing something once in a while, well, I think we all know how vast the difference is between the two.”

Metric, meanwhile, are currently on tour with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Garbage, and the party comes to MGM Music Hall at Fenway this Saturday (July 15). We often measure a touring package by the volume of “hits” we’ll hear at the show, and amongst these three, there’s a Metric fuck-ton.

And “Just The Once” should sound pretty fab alongside the classics. Spin it as many times necessary below.
