City of Boston declares ‘Sam Jay Day’ for Dorchester native and comic

Via The Wilbur

Before Sam Jay even hit the Wilbur stage this past weekend, there was a reason to celebrate as one does when making their headlining debut at their friendly neighborhood historic venue. By the end of the night, however, after she delivered her critically-acclaimed comedy beatdown to the local faithful, there was a whole new reason to pop some bottles.

With a proclamation handed down by Mayor Michelle Wu following Jay’s very first headlining set at The Wilbur on Saturday night (June 3), it is now official that June 3, 2023 will go down in history as “Sam Jay Day” in the city of Boston. While the lone video of the acknowledgment doesn’t have any words from the Dorchester native, it’s not a stretch to say that her grind and creative output over the past few years can surely speak for itself. In addition to releasing a widely-regarded Netflix special, 3 in the Morning in 2020, Jay has also been nominated for a handful of awards for her writing work on the Saturday Night Live staff, as well her hosting gig on HBO’s Pause with Sam Jay and her co-starring role on Peacock’s Bust Down in 2022.

Most recently, she can be seen opposite Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy in the hit Netflix film You People.
