Editor’s Note: Just like a young, ramen-noodle-haired Justin Timberlake once said, “it’s gonna be May.” Well, now it actually is, and the comedy stages around Massachusetts are continuing to bring nothing but the best in the game into the spotlight. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. As the days finally become warmer and we start to thaw from the bitter cold, we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (May 28).

Beer Giggles at The Pint

After a finals appearance at the Boston Comedy Festival this year, Brieana Woodward is back in town alongside Al Christakis for another night untamed open mic fun. Open mic sets are like a box of chocolates — you never what you’re gonna get, so why not take a chance for a fun night while only slightly risking biting into the piece of candy filled with that toothpaste-type filling?

Comedy Night at Bone Up Brewing

From top to bottom, this lineup is rearing to go. Hosted by Erin Spencer, join Katlin McFee, Thom Crowley, Tiny Smith and Alex Giampapa for this month’s dose of some midweek mischief that will help with getting through that last little push before weekend.

Rogue Island Comedy Festival

It may be fun, but it’s not always fair to shit on Rhode Island with reckless abandon, especially when one of the most anticipated comedy festival on the east coast calls it home. Join a slew of comedy’s top names like Chris Distefano and Mike Cannon, as well as homegrown favorites like Laura Severse, Ray Harrington, Sean Sullivan and so many more for a weekend that will have you venturing all over town and rewarding the journey with big laughs from start to finish.

ROGUE ISLAND COMEDY FESTIVAL :: Thursday, May 25 to Monday, May 29 :: Various locations :: Full Schedule

Christian Finnegan at Off Cabot

We’re all hoping for the Celtics to bring it to a Game 7, and if they do, Saturday may hold different plans for you. However, the comedic force of Christian Finnegan should be more than enough to coax you off the couch for a little while, as he returns home for a somewhat rare weekend visit and to work out some fresh material in one of the area’s most intimate spots.

CHRISTIAN FINNEGAN :: Saturday, May 27 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., tickets start at $30 :: Advance Tickets
