CARV.R shifts a darker beat across a kaleidoscopic shadow on ‘Deflect’

We last caught up CARV.R at the tail end of a lost 2021, when the Providence-based dark electronic-pop project of producer Cristian Carver teamed with Casey Desmond on the propulsive and visually engaging “Stuck.” CARV.R is adept at balancing the dark and light in their music, which often pairs heavy low-end industrial bass with glistening synth textures that glide across the surface for a sound that both pushes and pulls. And those elements dance in kaleidoscopic shadows on CARV.R’s dynamic new single “Deflect.”

Mastered by Adam Schneider of Big Time Kill, the dramatic track hit the streams last Friday (May 5), with an ALEX remix on the way next week to further fuel late-night dance floors. At times both tender and impactful, “Deflect” features guest vocals from Mari Kattman of the West Coast’s COP International label and Helix, a collaborative project with Tom Shear of Assemblage 23. It’s a captivating listen.

“‘Deflect’ is a personal track for me,” says CARV.R. “When I wrote the instrumental for ‘Deflect,’ I knew that Mari was the perfect person for the track. Her vocals sit perfectly with the music, and her lyrics bring the original idea of the song to life. The track was inspired by people who shirked responsibility for their actions and instead played the victim, which is a frustrating and disappointing experience that I’m sure many have gone through.”
