Oceanlord explore the hidden darkness of depression with ‘Kingdom’

May is usually a time for optimistic hope springing eternal, but Oceanlord have other ideas. The Australian doom trio have sludged up the month ahead with the release today (May 2) of crushing new single “Kingdom,” the followup to February’s treacherous “2340” and last heavy dose before tentacled debut full-length album Kingdom Cold hits May 26 via Magnetic Eye Records.

For us in the states, that gives us a a darker soundtrack for the holiday weekend. And it’s exactly what we deserve. Just be careful if you take it all out on the water; something may pull you from below.

“We consider ‘Kingdom’ to be our title track for the new album, which is plunging into a freezing realm where the dead lie dreaming,” says Oceanlord guitarist and vocalist Peter Willmott. “Crafted with unrelenting crushing riffs, this song was written about the hidden darkness of depression, and its vast power to control. Those who walk in the light of a clear mind will never know the might of the shadow. There is an overture of acceptance and even worship, an eternal paradox of living with pain. Will embracing the darkness draw us out or further in? The impossible throne lies in wait, will you kneel or rebel?”
