It’s been a pretty rough-and-tumble time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with all the behind-the-scenes drama involving studio hires and fires and the very public impact of their first real box-office failure in Quantumania. Even if some of the luster is starting to wear off, the Merry Marvel Marching Society will continue (nearly) as planned. Disney dropped the first trailer for The Marvels earlier on Tuesday after a silly little pre-teaser campaign, and you can check it out below. Nia DiCosta’s film brings together three generations of Captain Marvels (and their fans) for a big ol’ team-up involving evil Kree soldiers and musical planets. Yep, that’s right. As was heavily rumored last year, we have ourselves a musical number. At least Brie Larson’s got some pretty good pipes, right? Or is this like in Scott Pilgrim, when Emily Haines did the singing? Who knows. Anyway,
Peep it:
Here’s an especially and exceptionally long synopsis for a Marvel movie:
“Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe.”
Originally slated for June, The Marvels will hit theaters on November 10. That gives the moviegoing public an additional five months to incinerate each other in YouTube comment-section flame wars before they all somehow manage to go out and see it opening weekend. If you need us, we’ll be hiding in a cave until we get the all-clear.
