The Regrettes are heading out on tour this summer supporting YUNGBLUD, playing Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway in July; when they hit the stage, they’ll have quite the addition to their setlist arsenal: A spirited cover of Robyn’s forever-unfuckwithable electro-pop anthem “Dancing On My Own.”

Our love for the track runs deep, as we’ve declared it the most definable song of the 2010s back in our Decade in ReView coverage in 2019. Here, The Regrettes add a sharp warmth and glitzy flair to it, choosing to give it their own styling without reinventing it. It’s oddly similar, but also not.

Turns out, Robyn’s OG “Dancing On My Own” served as the band’s walk-out music for a recent tour. So they deciding to keep the beat rolling.

“We had so much fun dancing to ‘Dancing On My Own’ before walking out to play our set on tour,” the Los Angeles band shares. “We wanted to keep that energy going and give it our own creative spin and to make sure that we did the song justice by keeping its special identity with a lil ‘Regroots flavaaaa’ as we like to say.”

The Regrettes’ Lydia Night had this to say about it to Nylon: “‘Dancing On My Own’ has always been a really special song to me. The euphoric, painful but powerful, crying-in-the-club type of beat is my favorite kind of song. I connect with it in a whole new and personal way now more than ever. Going through a breakup can feel like literal death (lol), but this song makes me feel like I’m not alone. I hope our version can provide the same feeling to all the breakup baddies out there!”

Bless.
