Watch this ‘Agent Elvis’ trailer, thank you very much

Every once in a while, you get a little bit of casting that makes so much sense you wonder why it didn’t happen years earlier. Case in point: Matthew McConaughey as the one and only Elvis Presley, who, despite looking nothing like the King, has finally found a medium to show off what we’re sure has been a decades-in-the-making impression now ready to be simulcast around the world from Hawaii. Or wherever Netflix’s server farms are, that is.

Anyhow, the medium is animation, and it’s taken the form of Agent Elvis, a bizarre-looking comedy series about the misadventures of Elvis and a gang of misfits trying to save the world and win the hearts of all the gals in the front row. Sony Pictures Animation — who really want to remind you that they have made some good works in the aftermath of getting hacked over a Seth Rogen movie — is behind the magic, and, funnily enough, Priscilla Presley is a co-producer and a voice actor on the show.

We’re getting a lot of Black Dynamite (cartoon, not movie) vibes from the trailer that Netflix dropped earlier on Wednesday, and it looks kind of fun, though we imagine no one’s gonna come after Austin Butler (or, for that matter, Bruce Campbell) when it comes to stylized depictions of Presley and his life.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis, though we imagine you can guess what’s going on just from the title alone:

“Elvis Presley trades in his jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves – all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll.”

All episodes of Agent Elvis will be available to stream on Netflix on March 17. We’re guessing there’s gonna be gags about Nixon giving him his gun or something, because that is just too good of an opportunity to pass up.
