Please enjoy this trio of ace new tunes from boygenius

Last week, or whenever the hell it was, we were surprised, like a few others, to see boygenius listed to play this year’s Coachella festival. The celebrated indie-folk trio of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus has been laying relatively low since dropping a handful of demos back in 2020, two short years after first serenading our lonely days and crowded nights with their self-titled and self-produced EP.

Turns out the melodic triple-play collaboration had a new trick up the ol’ collective sleeve, and today (January 18) boygenius has unveiled three new songs in “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry”, and “True Blue.” There’s a bit of an added thump to this new batch of tunes, a notion most evident on the propulsive “$20,” and all will be featured on boygenius’ forthcoming debut album the record, set for March 31 release via Interscope.

Produced and written by boygenius and recorded at Shangri-la Studios in Malibu, the record hits, appropriately enough, just before Baker, Bridgers, and Dacus take the Coachella stage together on consecutive Saturdays, April 15 and 22.
