IFFBoston adds ‘Glass Onion,’ ‘The Wonder’ to Fall Focus lineup

It is a very busy time of year. Just think: You’ve got Halloween parties, all sorts of sports happening at once, apple-picking to do, leaves to rake, and children to swear at. So it’s somewhat understandable if your weekend plans prevented you from making the most out of this year’s IFFBoston Fall Focus, which is currently going on this Halloween weekend at The Brattle Theatre. But the good news is that the fun doesn’t stop on the 30th anymore because the good folks at IFFBoston have added two big-time screenings to the line-up on Monday (October 31) and Tuesday (November 1). When we say “big,” we mean “put the bowl of candy on the stoop and pray to whatever deity that those costumed kids will abide by the honor code.

First up is Glass Onion, from IFFBoston alumni Rian Johnson, the sequel to Knives Out and a movie we did not particularly care for. As always, though, your mileage will vary, and we can say without a doubt that this movie will be much more fun with an audience than it will be at home when it hits Netflix in December. That’s showing Monday at 7 p.m. at The Brattle, and you’ll want to get your tickets quick if you need Halloween plans (also, stick around for Evil Dead 2 afterward! That’s a good movie!).

Second is another Netflix title that showed at TIFF this year, and that’s Sebastian Lelio’s The Wonder, which is based on a novel by Room author Emma Donaghue. It stars Florence Pugh as a nurse sent to observe an Irish girl who has — according to her family, at least — eaten nothing since she was a wee lass. It’s gotten good notices from many critics, and we’re excited to check this one out when it closes out the Fall Focus on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Get your tickets here.
