Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

MusicCharlotte Sands at Brighton Music Hall

All hail Charlotte Sands. The Hopkinton-born alt-pop artist has had a stellar 2022, from racking up more than 30 million plays on her viral hit “Dress” to opening for Yungblud and My Chemical Romance to holding court at Boston Calling in the spring, the Nashville-based singer’s ascent has been as fun to watch as its been to listen to. Now, the Boston Music Awards-nominated Sands — pulling in Artist of the Year; Album/EP of the Year (‘for Love And Other Lies); Song of the Year (“Dress”); and Pop Artist of the Year — returns home for a headlining gig at Allston’s Brighton Music Hall this Sunday (October 16), the latest stop on her Love And Other Lies Tour. Get caught up here, and catch Sands this weekend in the most intimate joint she’ll likely play for quite some time.

Comedy: Tooky Kavanagh at Zone 3

As we’d expect for mid-October, the comedy slate is a healthy one this weekend, previewed as we do in this week’s Mic’d Up column. But we’re headed off the list to catch up with Tooky Kavanagh, who delivers an extended set tonight (Friday, October 14) at Zone 3 in Lower Allston for the return of the Comedy Party, a kick-off event that runs through mid-December. No stranger to our digital pages, we profiled Kavanagh back in March, and now the homegrown comic brings her distinct blend of honest charisma and raw edge to the Western Avenue creative space, away from the usual hustle and bustle of the downtown scene. Seasons greetings.

TOOKY KAVANAGH :: Friday, October 14 at Zone 3, 267 Western Ave. in Allston, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $10 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: ‘Dark Glasses’ at Coolidge Corner Theatre

Yeah sure, this month is all about the classics, and there’s plenty of horror nostalgia on screens from pockets to theaters to fill our candy buckets now to Halloween. But we love a fresh entry to the genre, and this weekend The Coolidge brings Dario Argento’s 2022 giallo film Dark Glasses, his first directorial work since 2012’s Dracula 3D, to its After Midnite series tonight and tomorrow (Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15). Throw on some shades and peep the synapsis. “Rome. An eclipse blocks out the sun, blackening the skies on a hot summer day — harbinger of the darkness that will envelop Diana when a serial killer chooses her as prey. Fleeing her predator, the young escort crashes her car and loses her sight. She emerges from the initial shock determined to fight for her life, but she is no longer alone. Defending her and acting as her eyes is a little boy, Chin, who survived the car accident. But the killer won’t give up his victim. Who will be saved? A triumphant return from Italian master of horror, director Dario Argento.”

‘DARK GLASSES’ :: Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 at The Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St. in Brookline, MA :: 11:59 p.m., $15.50 :: Info and tickets
