Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of Music, Comedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.
Music: Summer Sounds at Bellforge Arts Center
We’ve spent quite a bit of time down at Bellforge Arts Center this summer, from the Great Scott pop-up to our very own comedy festival two weeks ago. This Saturday (August 27), we’re back at the former Medfield State Hospital for the third Summer Sounds party, which boasts one of the better local alternative music lineups of the season (in show order): 5ever, Layzi, Mallcops, The Q-Tip Bandits, House of Harm, Shallow Pools, and Valleyheart. That’s a solid slate anywhere, but put it in the open cottage field with the BBQ food tuck and tequila stand and we’re especially in. Plus, we want to know what it’s like to watch House of Harm play in the daytime. We recommend wearing your lightest black.
SUMMER SOUNDS FESTIVAL AUGUST :: Saturday, August 27 at Bellforge Arts Center, 45 Hospital Road in Medfield, MA :: Noon to 7 p.m., all ages, free admission :: Bellforge event page
Comedy: Ray Harrington at Off Cabot Comedy Club
The calendar is quickly closing on August and it seems like everyone’s checked out from now until Labor Day, but Ray Harrington is still putting in the work with two nights tonight and Saturday (August 26 and 27) at Beverly’s Off Cabot Comedy Club. Here’s the word from this week’s Mic’d Up: “There are plenty of qualities that make Harrington such a gravitational presence onstage, but arguably his best is being able to keep a fresh but still effective perspective on the world around him, while continuously bringing us deep into the valley of introspection with dives into adulthood, parenthood, and always working to be a better person.”
RAY HARRINGTON :: Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27 at Off Cabot Comedy Club, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7:30 p.m. both nights, $25 :: Advance tickets are $25
Film/TV: ‘Dune’ at Boston Harbor Hotel
Here’s a fun game to play: The Boston Harbor Hotel’s Friday night summer movie series concludes tonight with Dune, and we’re not entirely sure if it’s screening the ’80s sci-fi cult version or last year’s psychedelic epic reboot from Denis Villeneuve. We’re assuming it’s the latter, because that makes more sense (we think), but don’t @ us if you end up staring at Kyle MacLachlan’s beautiful face for two hours. It’s more about the scenery and the setting anyway, man.
Here’s the word from Boston Central: “The Boston Harbor Hotel will once again transform its harbor side terrace into an outdoor cinema beneath the stars for its Annual Movies by Moonlight series on the waterfront. Visit Hollywood by enjoying an all-star lineup of both classic and contemporary movies every Friday night against the backdrop of the starlit harbor. The cool evening breeze and view from Intrigue Café set the stage for the perfect opportunity to view these classic films under the stars. Movies begin at dusk.”
‘DUNE’ :: Friday, August 26 at Boston Harbor Hotel, 70 Rowes Wharf in Boston, MA :: Dusk, free, all ages :: Event info
