Back in June we shared Automatic’s ice-cool corporate satire video for “Skyscraper,” and it set a detached, skeptic-pop mood for the Los Angeles alternative group’s new album, Excess, out now via Stone’s Throw. This week, the trio of Izzy Glaudini (synths, lead vocals), Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) and Halle Saxon (bass, vocals), drop a paper cut animation visual for “Automation” (yes, this is Automatic’s “Automation”), created by Yana Pan and Jenny Nirgends, complete with this declaration: “’Automaton’ is about having to deprogram yourself from capitalist ways of thinking, but, of course, we framed the song in our sci-fi theme — with an actual automaton as protagonist.”
With the new video arrives a batch of North American tour dates. Included in the run are a handful of West Coast shows with Osees; a night in LA opening for Bauhaus (Dompé is the daughter of Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins); and appearances at Levitation in Austin and Rough Trade’s Indieplaza Festival in New York City. There’s also an October 18 show at The Lilypad in Cambridge, as part of Automatic’s headlining portion. Tickets to those shows go on sale Wednesday (August 17) at 10 a.m. local time.
All the shows should be a pretty good time. Get into Excess, as well as the “Automation” video, below, and scan all the Automatic live dates after the embed jumps.
