Surf Curse veer off the path of straight and narrow with ‘TVI’

We’re not entirely sure if Surf Curse’s new single “TVI” is better suited for the feeling of Friday afternoon freedom, or the chaos of Monday morning’s re-entry to the workweek. In a weird way, it kind of hits nicely for both, cruising calmly at points before blossoming into some blissful guitar-rock fury. It’s the latest track from the Los Angeles band’s forthcoming debut album, Magic Hour, set for September 16 release on Atlantic Records.

“’TVI’ is an anthem about trying to stay out of trouble, whatever your trouble might be,” says lead vocalist and drummer Nick Rattigan. “The chorus chants ‘take your time / free your mind / I can do this everyday’ as the mantra but by ’10 o’clock TVI give me mine take me away’ you’ve succumbed… the ultimate loss of self and control… letting go.”

We feel that no matter the point in the week. Fire up the track via Spotify, and feast those glazed eyes upon the official “TVI” music video, directed by Rattigan and bandmate Jacob Rubeck, which finds the band flickering in faded VHS as they head out on a a Scooby Doo-style adventure through a haunted castle in the Los Angeles hills.
