The ‘Clerks III’ teaser will make you feel absolutely ancient

Want to feel really, really old? And we mean not in the way that you might feel, say, perusing Chuck Klosterman’s history of the ’90s in your local bookstore or sitting through the latest Jurassic World movie. If so, you should watch the trailer for Clerks III, Kevin Smith’s return to the series that made him a bonafide phenomenon in the ’90s and ’00s and you’ll know exactly what we mean. It is insane to think that Clerks hit theaters 28 years ago, and we imagine Smith feels similarly. The director took to his Insta on Wednesday in order to show off the trailer and announce when it’s finally coming out, and you can see the fruits of his labor below but be warned: It may cause you to wither up like a raisin.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis, via Deadline:

“‘Clerks III’ is billed as the final film in the series that kicked off Smith’s filmmaking career at Sundance in 1994, leading to his storied Hollywood run. It will pick up with Randal (Jeff Anderson) following a massive heart attack, as he enlists fellow clerks Dante (Brian O’Halloran), Elias (Trevor Fehrman), Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all. Liz Destro and Smodco’s Jordan Monsanto produced the pic written and directed by Smith, in which Rosario Dawson will also star.”

As for when you’ll be able to see Clerks III, well, let’s just say that Smith’s sticking to his guns on the whole “no traditional wide releases” thing he started with Red State (that didn’t stop him from selling Tusk to A24, but whatever). Smith’s partnered with Fathom Events for two nationwide screenings on September 13 and 15, and if you miss those, well, you’ll either have to go see him in person on the Convenience Tour in order to check it out. That kicks off in September and runs through the fall, and you can get tickets here. Presumably, it’ll hit streaming and/or VOD at some point as well, but at that point we imagine they’ll have a sign up on the site saying “I Assure You, The Movie Is Out.”
