The drummer of a Massachusetts rock band was attacked by multiple assailants early Friday morning (June 24) outside Boston’s South Station. The victim, 20-year-old Adam Neufell (pictured far right), is recovering at home after being treated at an area hospital with injuries both physical and mental — including various bruises, a broken nose, a busted lip, and a concussion that, according to the band, has caused increased sensitivity to lights and loud noises, symptoms that could jeopardize his playing career.
Neufell’s band, the Worcester-based Young Other, recently returned from performing live last month at Welcome To Rockville, a massive music festival at Florida’s Daytona International Speedway that was headlined by KISS, Korn, Guns N’ Roses, and Nine Inch Nails.
According to reports, Neufell was walking outside South Station just after midnight Friday with his girlfriend Celia. WCVB Channel 5 reports that the suspects approached Neufell, made a comment about his long hair, and launched an unprovoked physical attack. A passerby caught video of the incident, which has been making the rounds on social media. It shows the incident as well as the make, model, and license plate of the car the suspects jumped into to flee the scene. Neufell was left motionless on the sidewalk, bloodied and bruised.
No arrests have been made as of press time.
Young Other were set to perform a trio of shows this holiday weekend: July 1 in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania; July 2 in Maple Heights, Ohio; and July 3 in Buffalo, New York.
The band addressed the incident on social media, writing:
“As some may already know, our boy Adam and his girlfriend Celia were the victims of an attack Thursday night in Boston around South Station. Adam is currently suffering from a broken nose, a busted lip, a concussion that has caused increased sensitivity to lights and loud noises, along with various bruising in and around his body. As of right now, Adam and his family are working close with doctors and specialists to determine the extent of his concussion and injuries, and if Adam will be able to perform at next week’s upcoming run of shows.”
“We will keep everyone updated over the next few days with the answers that we receive from the healthcare professionals. Please keep Adam, his girlfriend Celia, and their families in your thoughts and prayers for a quick, healthy, full recovery. Please be patient with us, while also respecting the privacy of Adam and his family. We love you Adam.”
