Marbles bring a dream-pop escapism to our summer soundtrack

We’ve long subscribed to the idea that music aligns with the seasons. So it’s wonderfully appropriate that Norwegian dream-pop group Marbles have this past Friday (June 24) released a shimmering summer-fed single in “Heading Out”, a psychedelic-pop twirl that encapsulates the feeling of excitement as we break free from mental work spaces, both physical and mental, and attempt to enjoy some time away from the chaos of regular life. The band hails from Norway’s black metal capital of Kolbotn, but “Heading Out” is a kaleidoscopic spin of colorful escapades.

And those escapades can be any sort of escape deemed necessary in these times of chaos.

“It’s not just about the luxury of being able to travel, it’s about finding your own little precious moment amidst your normal day to day situation,” the band states. “Maybe even just in your mind and with your imagination! Being aware of a contrast between your everyday life and what you feel can be — and what you can do. Defining it is up to you.”

“Heading Out” is Marbles first new music since their self-titled 2020 debut album, and acts as a tone-setting for a forthcoming new record. More on all that later; in the meantime, get lost in the daydream escapism of “Heading Out” below.
