Watch Tame Impala cover The Strokes at Primavera Sound 2022

When The Strokes pulled out of Boston Calling due to Covid, a few of the other artists on the bill referenced the withdrawal on stage. Aaron Perrino of Aaron and the Lord introduced his band as “Hi we’re The Strokes” as they walked on, and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails — who filled in with a second headlining set on Day 2 — playfully told the crowd that they were not, in fact, the New York City indie band. But late last week at Primavera Sound 2022 in Barcelona, Tame Impala took things one step further, after The Strokes’ ongoing Covid situation took them out of that festival, as well. Kevin Parker and Co. covered “Last Nite,” giving the crowd a bit of that Strokes action that suddenly went missing. It’s a pretty straight-ahead cover, and it sounds pretty great. The crowd loved the shit out of it, too. Watch fan-filmed footage below, posted by Mark Flaix, and revisit our live review of Tame Impala’s March show at TD Garden.
