So, Netflix isn’t having the greatest time right now: Between losing subscribers in their last quarterly earnings reports (and the layoffs that ensued), having one of their biggest and most controversial talents attacked on stage at a comedy festival they were running, and tie-in merchandising spoiling one of their biggest cash cows only a week before they release its new season, it’s safe to say that 2022 could have gone better. The answer to their problems may be the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man, which stars Ryan Gosling and a wonderfully mustachioed Chris Evans as CIA assassins hunting each other down. Will it be a Winter Soldier or a Cherk? Only time will tell, but you can get your first glimpse at it in this new trailer that the streamer dropped on Tuesday morning.
Take a look:
Here’s a synopsis, which is actually some pretty fun copy:
“‘The Gray Man’ is CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), a.k.a., Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.”
The Gray Man will hit theaters on July 15 before arriving a week later (July 22, just in case you need the math spelled out for you, and we pretty much always do, so no shame) on Netflix. Let’s end this on a really positive note: It’s great to see Billy Bob again! Good god, we miss that dude so much and let’s hope this isn’t just a brief stint in acting before he hits the road with his band again.
