This June marks the 30th anniversary of The Lemonheads’ legendary It’s A Shame About Ray album. But while Evan Dando has been busy playing live shows celebrating the occasion, there is a new Lemonheads album in the works, set to be finished this summer.

A new album means a need for new cover artwork, and earlier today (May 5), Dando took to Twitter to ask former president George W. Bush if he’d lend his paint brush and do the honors. He offered a cool sum of $10,000 for the trouble. And he included an apology for “some fucked up things” Dando apparently said about the ex-prez back in those hazy early 2000s.

Dando tweeted: “This is an open letter to George W. Bush I said some fucked things about you In that confusing past that was the early naughties … As a peace offering I would like you to do our album cover I like your paintings ( we can pay 10 G )”.

He followed that up with a second tweet: “We should be finishing it this summer think about it thank you Mr. Bush”.

After getting some pushback in the replies, Dando admitted he doesn’t expect a response to his offer. ONCE Somerville chimed in, offering to do the paining for half the price.

The Lemonheads are currently on tour in Europe for a string of It’s A Shame About Ray anniversary shows. They play Austria and Switzerland this weekend.
