Who’s ready for more Fast & Furious? Good, we were sure that all of you were. In case you haven’t been paying much attention in the last few weeks — and it’s understandable if you haven’t given that, you know, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock (and a whole lot of other and more important news perhaps more relevant to one’s day-to-day life has occupied the front pages of newspapers) — Fast and Furious 10 has been gearing up for production. Brie Larson joined the cast, Jason Momoa’s playing the film’s villain, and Daniela Melchior from The Suicide Squad is hopping in the passenger seat alongside Vin Diesel for this new installment. But to mark the official start of production, Diesel took to his Instagram in order to announce that the film has a brand new title, which is… uh, pretty silly.
Here’s the Tweet version of the announcement from the official Fast Saga account, given that Instagram embeds are a fucking nightmare:
Yep, that’s right: Fast and Furious 10, the penultimate installment of the franchise, is now called Fast X. Adjust all of your calendars and notebooks accordingly, folks. We’re gonna be real with you: this is a very goofy title, though it was inevitable that they would eventually run out of ways to make Furious [Insert Number Here] continue to sound cool. Fasten remands our favorite combo of pun-and-call-to-action, but Fast X feels like the result of a Hunger Games-style battle royale between marketing executives. It’s only inevitable that they would come up with something that either sounds like off-brand erectile dysfunction pills resting between CBD pens and phone chargers at your local gas station counter or some sort of laxative.
Regardless of whether or not the title’s any good, we’re still hyped as fuck for Fast X, which hits theaters on May 19, 2023. Maybe they’ll go back in time in this one? Who knows, dude. They already went to space.
