Cucamaras rally around a post-punk urgency on ‘Winners Chapel’

Via the band

“I was on a dead-end road when you told me keep running.” That’s one of a few stand-out lines from Cucamaras‘ urgent new post-punk ripper “Winners Chapel”, the latest from the Nottingham band that grabs hold at the go and never lets loose over a four-minute blitz. The dynamic yearner dropped yesterday (April 13) and positions a cautious tale of always checking the source and motives of those who demand our time and attention.

“This one is a track about taking and regretting advice from didactic characters who are in no position to teach, but you somewhat buy into the ideas that they’re selling,” says Cucamaras’ Olly Bowley, via Clash. “It’s a disorientated story as far as the song flows — walking and bumping into this person, hearing them out, acting on what they said but ending up worse off from the encounter.”

Cucamaras are entirely new to our sites and playlists, but we have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be hearing a lot more from this band in the coming months. Get started with “Winners Chapel,” and align early with a new voice in a universal fight against the forces that hold us back.
