You *will* watch this ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ teaser trailer

Obi-Wan
Disney+

A long time ago at a Star Wars celebration not so far, far away, it was announced that Ewan McGregor would return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a miniseries helpfully titled Obi-Wan Kenobi, and that Hayden Christensen would also return to the franchise as Darth Vader himself. In the two-or-so-years since that con happened, not much news has emerged about the project, aside from occasional rumors about where it’s shooting or exactly who’s gonna be in the cast. But, ye Star Wars faithful, your hope has been rewarded: Disney finally dropped the teaser trailer for the series earlier on Wednesday, and good lord does it look… like what you might have expected from an Obi-Wan show, especially from Disney. Boatloads of Inquistors? Check. Night-time action sequences? Check. The same general style as The Mandalorian? Duh. Hype mode? Activated.

Take a look:

Here’s a synopsis and a reminder of just how crazy stacked this cast is:

“The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’ where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat — the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 25, with new episodes following soon after the premiere. It’s always pretty amusing how Disney refuses to simply take the ‘May 4’ layup when it’s given to them, but it’s also… kind of good, we guess? The fewer corporate feasting days we acknowledge, the better.
