Don’t look now, but a new Boston tradition has emerged out of an old Boston tradition. Dropkick Murphys, who have celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Celtic punk-style across multiple Boston stages for as long as we can remember, have in the past two years continued the tradition on the livestream circuit, starting most notably back in 2020 just as the world shut down due to the pandemic. Now with live audiences returning to music venues, and the band’s March 17 gig at The House of Blues sold out, the livestream tradition will continue this year, with an added bonus — the barn will be full of revelers.
This week the Dropkicks announced a free livestream event, Dropkick Murphys St. Patrick’s Day Free Live Stream From House Of Blues Boston, via DKMstream.com, broadcasting live from Lansdowne Street on March 17 at 9 p.m. EST. It’s presented by Boston tech company Pega, and while there is no cost to view, donations to the band’s Claddagh Fund will be accepted via text.
“After two years and four live streams with no audience, we are so, so, so excited to do our first live stream in front of a live audience. I think this will give people watching at home a much better feel of what it’s like to see Dropkick Murphys in our element,” says Ken Casey.
For all the shows on their current St. Patricks Day American Tour 2022, in support of last year’s Turn Up That Dial album, the band will be without Al Barr, who is sitting out to help care for his mother after her recent Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis. Casey will assume full vocal duties, with members of the tour’s opening acts, like Jesse Ahern, Mikey Rivkees from The Rumjacks, and Jen Razavi from The Bombpops, joining in on certain songs.
Ship up.
