Sure, some of her work feels hypnotic as witchcraft, as we’ve reported in the past, and the magnetic pull of “Come Back To Me” is truly palpable. But the new single from the Boston artist (released today, February 18) arrives supercharged with confidence, fantasy, and pop pizazz — not any sort of sorcery. To insinuate otherwise would be dismissive of Sleeping Bela’s knack for pulling listeners and lovers back in her direction.
“Something feels so brave when we fight,” she coos on the chorus, taking a romantic approach to quarrels, like a page ripped from a movie script. And really, is there any reason to sweat a dispute when your charm is this convincing?
“‘Come Back to Me’ captures the feeling of a love that feels invincible; a love that fights but forgives, a love who’s counterparts always find their way back to each other,” Sleeping Bela reflects. “The song was inspired by a feeling of confidence that came after a dispute with someone I loved. I remember never having seen that side of myself before. Yet, all I felt from that person was love and acceptance. Along with the safety that came from being in this person’s space, came the hope that they would always come back to me.”
