Daniel Radcliffe will ‘Eat It’ as ‘Weird Al’ in a new biopic

Weird Al
Still from 'UHF' by MGM

At some point, we’re going to just have to accept that whatever Gods above us controlling our simulation get some small amount of joy from tormenting us with the absurdity of modern life. They can be cruel, ironic, just, whatever you think, but at the heart of it, they’re just deeply goofy. Case in point: Deadline broke the news on Tuesday morning that Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe (who will probably be mad at us for saying that), will play the icon “Weird Al” Yankovic in a new movie. Well, actually a feature-length adaptation of an old movie — an old Funny or Die short, to be precise — called Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. We remember this making a pretty big splash on Reddit back in the day, and the feature-length film is retaining its original director, Eric Appel.

It’s not every day that we have the opportunity to share a proof-of-concept teaser for a film, but since this shit was on Funny or Die a decade ago, well, here’s your first look at Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (at least in its larval phase):

Here’s an awesome quote about the project that ‘Weird’ Al gave to Deadline:

“When my last movie ‘UHF’ came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule. And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Production on Weird: The Al Yankovic Story will begin later this month, and eventually, the film will release on The Roku Channel. Whether or not this one film means it’s worth signing up for is entirely up to you, but we’re gonna hazard a guess that they’ll see a relatively large bump in numbers for at least a seven-day free trial.
