Well, after all this time and teasing, Craig Gillespie’s limited series Pam and Tommy is almost here, and Hulu dropped a brand-new trailer for the project to remind us all that yes, Sebastian Stan is playing Tommy Lee and Lily James is playing Pamela Anderson in a limited series about the most infamous sex tape made in the ’90s, and it wasn’t a joke. Gillespie’s fresh off of Cruella (which might actually be the best film released by the Walt Disney Company proper last year, which isn’t saying too much) but this sees him return to his I, Tonya roots for some more ’90s sleaze and crime. We’re pretty hyped, y’all.
Peep it at YouTube, because this content is just too hot to handle for an embeddable link (what the fuck, guys?):
Here’s a synopsis, though if you lived through either the ’90s (or the early ’00s, as long as you watched plenty of VH1) you probably don’t really need this:
“Set in the Wild West early days of the Internet, ‘Pam & Tommy’ is based on the incredible true story of the Pamela Anderson (Lily James) and Tommy Lee (Sebastian Stan) sex tape. Stolen from the couple’s home by a disgruntled contractor (Seth Rogen), the video went from underground bootleg-VHS curiosity to full-blown global sensation when it hit the Web in 1997. A love story, crime caper and cautionary tale rolled into one, the eight-part original limited series explores the intersection of privacy, technology and celebrity, tracing the origins of our current Reality TV Era to a stolen tape seen by millions but meant to have an audience of just two.”
Pam and Tommy will hit Hulu on February 2, which is kind of a bummer given that Valentine’s Day would have been the perfect release date. We’re thinking it’s right about time for a Barb Wire rewatch, which, as Roger Ebert pointed out years ago, is possibly the strangest Casablanca remake of all time.
