Start the countdown: One week from today, much of the Boston music scene will be slumped across their sofas, happily nursing a hangover from the “in real life” return of the Boston Music Awards. Their ears will probably be ringing too, courtesy of the seven live performances scattered throughout the ceremony.
Following a year of virtual awards in 2020, the BMAs will recognize the best and brightest talent in Boston music next Wednesday (December 8) at Brighton Music Hall, featuring sets from Anson Rap$, Mallcops, Jake Swamp and The Pine, Layzi, Zola Simone (pictured above), Senseless Optimism, and Izzy Heltai. For anyone keeping score at home, that’s a grand total of 19 nominations, including four nods in the “617 Sessions Artist of the Year” category.
It’s not too late to cast your vote before tomorrow’s deadline of 11:59 p.m. — apparently over 100,000 votes have already been cast across the awards’ 37 categories — but tickets to the ceremony have sold out, so let’s hope your faves start a livestream or two on social media.
