As Americans slowly wake from a four-day holiday weekend slumber that began with full tables for Thanksgiving and concluded with brazen displays of gaudy holiday decorations, the opening lines from Oxford Drama’s new single and video for “Too Busy” are connecting in a big way: “I start my day with just a bit of comparing to all of my friends / And their lives, how happy they seem to be / Living their best lives, careers, healthy babies and meals.”
The Polish experimental-pop duo dropped the video, directed by by Jakub Saniewski, earlier this month, and it’s an appropriately colorful and hypnotic visual for the effervescent tune that’s all about the self-abuse we put ourselves through while we long for what others seem to have.
“Too Busy” was included on Oxford Drama’s March album What’s The Deal With Time?, and is billed as “an honest confession about an unhealthy start of the day, when you compare to everyone and everything around you.”
The duo adds: “It’s also a fierce statement about getting your own life back after quitting an addictive spiral of who’s got it better. And despite the appeal of all those apps, sometimes you’re just too busy for more punches from the modern world.”
Stop the endless scroll, and get lost in the hazy dream-pop of the wonderfully-named Oxford Drama below.
