If you listen verrry closely, you can hear a whole lot of conflict tussling beneath the placid surface of Coral Moons’ new EP Quarter Life Crisis, out today (September 12). And, based on that album title, the underlying reason for alarm on the release is pretty self-explanatory.
Assembled on the verge of lead singer Carly Kraft’s 24th birthday, the Boston band’s first EP spells out their dedication to the musical stylings of early classic rock with a five-track emotional trek through early adulthood, recorded at Great North Sound Society in Parsonsfield, Maine.
Quarter Life Crisis sprints towards that daunting 25-year-mark in slow motion, panicking through otherwise pleasant, soul-driven melodies via some good ol’ retro rock. “Just remember we don’t have much time / To figure out the rest of our lives,” Kraft taunts on album closer “Lies,” an ominous final take, but an accurate one for most twenty-somethings nonetheless.
