‘The Mandalorian,’ the Disney+ ‘Star Wars’ series, has a cool trailer

More big news out of D23, the Walt Disney Company’s annual convention where they show off how much closer they are to being a monopoly. This time it’s the trailer for The Mandalorian, the Star Wars TV show executive produced by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal (as the Mandalorian himself), Gina Carano, and Carl Weathers. It looks really, really cool. We have a ton of great action, a Werner Herzog voice-over, an incredible shot of IG-11, as voiced by Taika Waititi, killing loads of motherfuckers, and a general tone of gritty badassery that basically every Star Wars nerd has clamored for every since they first read their soon-to-be-dog-eared copy of Kevin J. Anderson’s Tales of the Bounty Hunters as edgy thirteen year-olds. Did we mention that it looks pretty dope? Oh, we did.

Peep it:

See, now that’s what we’re talking about! We’re enjoying the Leone/Corbucci vibes that Faverau and company have injected into this little slice of the Star Wars universe, and we’re hoping — nay, we are praying — that this might out-Firefly Firefly. A dorky-ass motherfucker can dream, right? Anyways, we’re not totally sure that this outweighs the collective evil that Disney’s inflicted upon the motion picture industry in the last couple of months, from their acquisition of Fox and the massive layoffs that followed or the weird bullying that they’ve been doing to Sony, of all companies, but we’re kind of on board with this, at least.

Here’s a synopsis:

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

The Mandalorian hits Disney+ on November 12.
