Johnny Marr just can’t quit it. And he has no reason to.
The Smiths guitarist took his solo output to new heights in 2018 with one of the more masterful releases of his iconic career in solo record Call The Comet. And ever since, he’s been treating listeners to a streak of singles that show off both his legendary guitar work and his brilliant songwriting.
Following the eco-disco bounce of February’s “Armatopia”, Marr returns with a blistering new joint of renewed urgency called “The Bright Parade.” Listen to it below.
“I think this track is more of a story… more of a psychedelic musical track,” Marr tells DIY in a recent interview. “Maybe I’ve been quite preoccupied with the cosmos over the last couple of years but it’s the perfect metaphor for the star system — whether that’s a rock star or a movie star or a reality TV star. I think half my mind was still in the cosmos and the other half was around these vacuous modern day reality stars. ‘The Bright Parade’ puts the two together and puts it on top of a psychedelic backing track.”
Let’s soar with Marr right through the summer.
