Hey, did you know it’s X-Men Day today? No? Yes, of course it’s a real holiday, not just a marketing gimmick invented by its studio to follow in the footsteps of Star Wars Day and Alien Day — didn’t you get work off? No? Well, that’s a shame. Anyways, you’ve got to wonder how the Disney/Fox conglomerate feels right about now, given that they’re saddled with the once-proud remains of the Bryan Singer/Simon Kinberg superhero franchise. We imagine they feel a lot like the Adam West Batman did back in 1966, when he was trying to find a place to dump a comically large explosive. “Some days, you just can’t get rid of a bomb,” indeed, sir. Anyways, a new Dark Phoenix trailer! It’s the fourth. Yikes.
Here’s the trailer/series-wide advertisement:
Notably missing from that end-of-trailer advertisement for all of the other X-Men movies on streaming? Why, it’s the infamous X-Men: The Last Stand, which was the first to adapt the “Dark Phoenix” storyline and may actually be better than whatever this is shaping up to be.
Here’s an extra-long synopsis, one that you’re probably sick of reading by now:
“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional ‘X-Men’ movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of ‘X-Men’ movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”
Dark Phoenix will mercifully hit theaters on June 6. Expect a trailer every single day until then.
