IFFBoston Preview Part II: Allston crust punks, haunted dresses, Scottish country singers

If you're a Boston-based cinephile, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times of the year for you, as the Independent Film Festival Boston has returned with one of their strongest line-ups ever. Running from April 24 through May 1 at the Brattle, Somerville and Coolidge Corner Theatres, there's so many great movies showing at this year's festival that we've had to split our preview up into three parts. We published our first preview on Tuesday, covering the first few days of the festival's line-up and you should check back soon for the third piece about what's in store over the next week or so. For now, here are some choice cuts from Saturday and Sunday of the festival's programming. Tickets and more information are available at the IFFBoston website.

In Fabric

Saturday, April 27 at 9:45 p.m. at the Brattle Theatre

We L-O-V-E-D Peter Strickland’s follow-up to his 2016 masterwork The Duke of Burgundy back when we saw it as a part of TIFF’s Midnight Madness program last year, and it was soon snatched up afterwards by A24, which should tell you all you need to know about what kind of nerd this will appeal to. A loving tribute to the Giallo films of Strickland’s youth, In Fabric tells a tale of a haunted dress as it is passed from owner to owner. It’s funny as hell and existentially terrifying, and should not be missed by the BUFF crowd or alt-cinema fans of all stripes.
