If you're a Boston-based cinephile, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times of the year for you, as the Independent Film Festival Boston has returned with one of their strongest line-ups ever. Running from April 24 through May 1 at the Brattle, Somerville and Coolidge Corner Theatres, there's so many great movies showing at this year's festival that we've had to split our preview up into three parts. We published our first preview on Tuesday, covering the first few days of the festival's line-up and you should check back soon for the third piece about what's in store over the next week or so. For now, here are some choice cuts from Saturday and Sunday of the festival's programming. Tickets and more information are available at the IFFBoston website.

WBCN and the American Revolution

Saturday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Somerville Theatre

Here’s a doc that is most definitely of local interest: This film follows the rise and fall of WBCN, Boston’s biggest underground radio station, whose glory days covered the whole of the ‘60s and ’70s. It helped to blow up the careers of Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and many other important artists, and helped to circulate ideas that might have died on the vine in the pre-social media era. Director Bill Lichenstein knows his subject material well — he began his career at the station in junior high, back in the day — and he’s sure to bring his knowledge and insight to his work.
