Four years after gifting us with Art Angels, Grimes is ready to birth a new full-length record, the pleasantly complicated opus Miss_Anthrop0cene, which she detailed last night on Instagram and twitter.
And considering all the details the Canadian singer and producer laid out in her posts, it’s no wonder that the new album has been taking so long. Miss_Anthrop0cene, release date TBA, will be a concept album “about the anthropomorphic Goddess of climate Change” and will mostly consist of songs that are “ethereal nu metal (ish).”
Who is this goddess? “A psychedelic, space-dwelling demon/ beauty-Queen who relishes the end of the world,” Grimes says.
Oh.
She elaborated further on the heady idea, explaining the connection to her 2018 single “We Appreciate Power” as well: “Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology. The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence.”
Grimes also shared that she might release and EP or additional singles of more synth-based tracks before Miss_Anthropocene drops, although like the album release date, this is all still to be determined.
Check out the full post below, and peep her new demo for a separate project from last week here.
