1994 Forever: A ton of great movies are turning 25 in 2019

1994

Yeah, that's right: 'Pulp Fiction' is going to be old enough to rent a car soon.

At the start of the New Year, we brought you a list of albums from 1994 that are celebrating the big 2-5 this year. As we mentioned, it was a motherfucker of a year in music, but the fun didn't just stop there. Beyond the obvious choices -- Pulp Fiction, The Lion King, The Shawshank Redemption, etc -- 1994 was a hell of fun year at the cinema as well. We were nearing the end of our cultural fascination with Macaulay Culkin and Jean-Claude Van Damme, and just beginning our lengthy thirst-follow of Brad Pitt's (his work is represented at least four times on this list, by the way). A little dude named Jim Carrey made a shitload of movies as well, including at least one all-time classic, as to which we'll leave to you to determine it for yourself. We've got the debuts of filmmakers like Kevin Smith, and the more-challenging works of auteurs like the Coen Brothers, Oliver Stone, Tim Burton, John Waters and more. We've got some reality-bending horror from Wes Craven, two major motion-pictures with the words "Star" in the title, and a beloved Natalie Portman feature that gets a bit creepier each and every day away from its original release date. It was, to be sure, an absolutely brilliant year.
