Lost Cousins provide an indie-psych compass on the warm 'Stay'

There’s something in the way “Stay,” the new single from Lost Cousins, first approaches. A warm glow of synths welcomes an embrace, a shimmering light sent from another place, corralling and caressing with an unspoken notion that everything is going to be okay. And you know what? It is.
The latest single from the Canadian indie-psych band is a triumph, and suggests their forthcoming debut LP, In Scenery, due February 1, could be both a friend you always had and a new acquaintance you’ve always wanted. The mountainous “Stay” is shrouded in positivity; a song about life’s chapters and the saga of transition, particularly when the next step is uncertain — and the walls are, quite literally, closing in.
“After finishing school and moving to a bigger city, we lived together in a downtown basement apartment,” Lost Cousins reveal. “A lot of the songs on our debut LP were conceived during this time; in the struggle to find our place in such a daunting environment, there was a sense of longing for those larger outdoor spaces and getting back to them that runs through each track… ‘Stay’ is about both physical and emotional movement. Uncertainties that lie ahead and remnants of the past are unearthed through the reflection of changing landscapes on a long road trip. The song describes adjustment to departure through fragments of memories from a backseat window.”
And as those memories fade from view, the opening sounds of “Stay” provides added comfort. Get lost within it below via Spotify.
