'Aladdin' Teaser: Check out a quick clip of live-action Agrabah

Aladdin

It’s been an Aladdin-heavy week in the world of movie news. On Wednesday, Will Smith dropped the first look at the Guy Ritchie film’s teaser poster on his Instagram, and people freaked out about it. That was followed on Thursday night by a 90-second preview that aired during the Philadelphia Eagles’ beatdown of the New York Giants, and as far as first teasers go, it follows the “show as absolutely as little as possible” rule to a T.
Here, take a (short) look for yourself:

There’s not too much to go on here, but we will say that the set design looks fascinating (which is to be expected from Ritchie), and that we’re quite excited that, of all the characters present in the cartoon, the Gilbert Gottfried-voiced parrot Iago made it into the live-action cut. That little dude is precious. Still, we’ll wait for more before cueing up “A Whole New World” in the regular Karaoke rotation, but we are very interested in this.
“’Aladdin’ is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, the film is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s ‘Aladdin.’ ‘Aladdin’ stars Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie; Mena Massoud as the charming scoundrel Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine, the beautiful, self-determined princess; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, the powerful sorcerer; Navid Negahban as the Sultan concerned with his daughter’s future; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s free-spirited best friend and confidante; Billy Magnussen as the handsome and arrogant suitor Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and captain of the palace guards.
Aladdin hits theaters on May 24, 2019.
