Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.
We first fell smitten with Boston electronic-pop duo Citrusphere when we unexpectedly caught them dropping a Depeche Mode cover at ZuZu back in June 2016. Since then, Angel Rose and Alex Hardy have evolved to become a sort-of secret weapon in the Boston underground, but only in the sense that they act as a weapon designed for peace and love.
This week, the Boston Music Award-nominated Citrusphere (in the Dance/Electronic Artist of the Year category), have unveiled a conceptually-striking visual for “The Depth,” which helps introduce the viewer to their colorful world in advance of a live appearance this Tuesday (October 9) at The Midway. Directed and produced by Jamaica Plain-based multi-media artist Alex Miklowski, the artistic, open-air scenes complement nicely Citrusphere’s knack for rhythmic complexity and an ability to create emotive auras within their music.
“We shot the video in three different shoots which ended up being in three different seasons — winter, spring and summer,” Rose tells Vanyaland. “Our process for each shoot was the following — determine the location, gather treasures to bring with us, and then organically explore the space [and] environment together. We knew that water, color, light, reflections, movement and stillness would be the integral components for this video. Alex’s aesthetic and our melodic sound both lend themselves well to cascading layers and interwoven visuals. This is why all of the shots in ‘The Depth’ are comprised of layers and layers.”
Rose continues: “Narrating through these fluctuating visuals helps portray how humans can be ever-changing, evolving individuals — expanding past others and/or societies boundaries or expectations. This video is an exploration and adoration of the depth that exists within each of us and the growth that it can ensue.”
