‘Widows’ Trailer 2: Viola Davis and her crew avenge their husbands

Widows

We’ve mentioned before how excited we are for Steve McQueen’s Widows, but this brand-spanking new trailer is so full of unseen footage that we thought it prudent to share it with you. It also contains one of our favorite line-readings of the year (outside of “Oh no! He died!” from Game Night) and you will most definitely know when that moment occurs. But mostly, it’ll make you want to run through a concrete wall without any pads, so you should definitely use this as a Wednesday pick-me-up. It’s like an adrenaline shot to the chest or, perhaps more tastefully, a delicious 5-Hour Energy.

Peep it:

Goddamn it, we love Viola Davis so much. Like, you could take away the rest of this stacked cast and have her act out every single role, and the movie would somehow still wind up on our top ten list at the end of the year.

Here’s a synopsis:

“From Academy Award-winning director Steve McQueen (’12 Years a Slave’) and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn (‘Gone Girl’) comes a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. ‘Widows’ is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar winner Viola Davis), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. ‘Widows’ also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.”

Widows hits theaters everywhere on November 16, but it’ll make its world premiere at TIFF this year, and we’ll have a review for you from there in September.
