Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.
Every spring we lose our collective shit over Vermont music and festival Waking Windows, sending Ben Stas up north to the promised land to document the sounds and the scene across multiple venues, stages, and DIY performance spaces. But the Waking Windows crew have been consistently throwing together a Portland, Maine, fest that rivals the Winooski original, and today have released the lineup for its 2018 edition.
And we better stop sleeping on it.
Waking Windows Portland goes down September 21 and 22 and features a healthy lineup of 50 bands and artists as well as comedy, readings, and other cool shit. The fest is headlined by Vundabar, Jaw Gems, and Ivy Sole, with the lineup also featuring Rick Rude, Bad History Month, (New England) Patriots, Paper Castles and a bunch more.
Participating venues include Bayside Bowl, The Public Works, The Apohadion Theater, New Fruit, University of Southern Maine, SPACE, Empire, Geno’s Rock Club, Portland Flea-for-All, One Longfellow Square, The Bearded Lady’s Jewel Box, Portland Museum of Art, Maine Ballroom Dance, and others. So this is pretty much a city takeover.
“We’re proud to present to you, Waking Windows Portland 2018,” the fest writes online. “All of this magic across just two days. We hope you’re as excited as we are. Festival passes are on sale now at wakingwindowsportland.com. And believe it or not, there’s still more to be announced in the coming weeks! Stay tuned.”
Well hot damn. Certainly worth the 155-mile drive up to Maine for the weekend. Peep the full lineup in flyer form below and recap Ben Stas’ coverage here: Waking Windows 2018 + Waking Windows 2017 + Waking Windows 2016.
