The Midnight have returned to the synth to look for ‘America 2’

From the now-monthly Overdrive dance party in Cambridge to new singles from Gunship, NightStop, and Scandroid, we’re riding the shit out of 2018’s wave of synthwave. Now as NEON Retrofuturism Festival prepares to take over Providence in a few weeks, Los Angeles’ The Midnight are back with an aural electronic-pop joyride called “America 2.” The follow-up to July’s “Lost Boy,” this new bit of retrowave from Tim McEwan and Tyler Lyle blends ’80s mall chic and carefree summer innocence with new wave passion and ambition. It already feels rather timeless in its ease and command. The Midnight are setting out on their first-ever tour this fall, and their October 7 show at Brighton Music Hall in Allston sold out so fast, a second date was added for October 8. Don’t sleep.
