When it comes to the music of Free Cake for Every Creature, the real treats come out in between their delicate guitar-pop notes — yet somehow it’s just now that the world’s catching on to where the group’s goodness lies.
Katie Bennett’s Philly project has been churning out releases since 2013 (which literally started with Shitty Beginnings), but it wasn’t until 2016 when everyone caught wind of her musical snacks, and until 2018 when everyone became truly hyped for her new album, The Bluest Star, out today (August 3) via Double Double Whammy. The record’s gentle bliss overflows in particular on “Be Home Soon,” an indie cradlesong of sorts with a collage-d out music vid to match.
“So happy to share ‘Be Home Soon,’ with a video by the incredible Rivkah Gevinson!” Bennett says. “I’ve loved Rivkah’s work since we went to college together and she was a cool art major.”
Catch the delectable ‘lil group when they play Great Scott on Monday (August 6) with Horse Jumper of Love, Puppy Problems, and Tuft (although this is a missed opportunity to put Free Pizza on the bill if there ever was one, RIP Free Pizza).
