Earlier this week Robyn tucked a new song into a short film detailing her relationship with fans. We hyped it, because Robyn rules our lives eight ways to Sunday, but we also said we’d hold off on final judgement until we could stream it properly until our faces melted off.
Now here we are.
The new song is called “Missing U”, it was recorded and written in Paris and Stockholm, and it serves as Robyn’s first new single as a solo artist since changing the electronic-pop game with Body Talk back in 2010.
On first few listens we thought the crystalized synth-pop banger was missing that one magic Robyn moment that all her great songs have, but it’s growing on us now that we have it tumbling on repeat via Spotify. And it does feel like a natural progression from her 2014 collaboration with Royksopp.
“‘Missing U’ is a song about this trippy thing that happens when people disappear,” Robyn says, “it’s like they become even more clear and you see them everywhere.” The Swede has also said that this new track is “also a little bit of a message to my fans, that I’ve missed them.”
Well, girl, we’ve missed you, too.
