Editor's Note: Every artist tries to move the room with their live performance. Some are able to do it well in advance. Tom Misch pulled off such a feat earlier this week, as his show at Royale on Wednesday (May 2) was elevated from the smaller Sinclair due to overwhelming ticket demand. Misch might have been able to go larger, as his Royale gig was well sold out, thanks to the young London musician's skilled ability to craft a sound that pulls from hip-hop, funk, and jazz; a sonic cocktail that comes together mightily on last month's debut LP Geography. But Misch wasn't alone in this eclectic musical showcase, joined at Royale by acclaimed New York City multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Garzón-Montano and NYC saxophonist Braxton Cook. The tireless Yazi Ferrufino was in the Theatre District venue on behalf of Vanyaland to capture some visuals, and you can scan through his full set, in order of appearance, below.
