Here comes ShadowParty, featuring members of New Order, Marion, and Devo

Everyone loves a supergroup, and today along comes one with some highly sought-after DNA. They’re called ShadowParty, the band features current and/or former members of New Order, Marion, and Devo, and they formed here in Boston.

Now signed to Mute Records, ShadowParty will release their debut LP on July 27, and to properly introduce themselves, have issued lead single “Celebrate”, a lush, orchestrally gritty pop nugget that will deposit a synth hook so deep into your brainspace you’ll start charging it rent after it refuses to leave.

Here’s the back story:

“The nucleus of the group formed when Josh Hager and Tom Chapman met in Boston, Massachusetts. Josh is a former member of The Rentals who currently plays guitar and keyboards in Devo. Tom Chapman is the former bass player of Bad Lieutenant who followed frontman Bernard Sumner to New Order in 2011 when the band reunited for a series of charity gigs. Completing the group are Phil Cunningham, Marion founding member and New Order’s guitarist since 2002, and drummer Jeff Friedl, who plays with Devo.”

That’s some pedigree. Any time you can enlist the talents of a man who played on Marion’s criminally underrated 1996 Britpop classic This World And Body, we are listening.

ShadowParty’s debut LP was recorded in Boston, Ls Angeles, Manchester, and Macclesfield, and features guest work from vocalist Denise Johnson (Primal Scream, A Certain Ratio) and The Verve guitarist Nick McCabe.
