You know what you need on this exhausting hump day? Some hot dino-on-dino action, and Universal Pictures is very happy to provide it for you with a new trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This time, we get a closer look at the plot and a few new character moments between Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and we’ve discovered a few things that make this a little more compelling than the last one: Namely that we really want Toby Jones to call a NFL game with Tony Romo, especially with the accent he’s sporting here. Other than that, it’s a Jurassic Park movie, so there’s lots of dinosaurs doing dino things like stalking children and creeping into their bedrooms. Wait, what?
Peep it:
Yeah, that’s a big-budget movie right there.
We have to admit that we really liked that the previous marketing materials led with the threat of the volcanic explosion rather than this Military-Industrial-Dinosaurs bullshit that’s been kicking around for years and years on Hollywood backlots (yes, we get that they set this up in the previous film with Vincent D’Onofrio but come on).
That isn’t a joke, either — concept art of fuckin’ dinosaur-human hybrids outfitted with cannons exists from the concept back when Jurassic Park III director Joe Johnston was still attached to the project back in 2004– and it sounded kind of dumb then and sounds pretty dumb now. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned in our time writing about the Jurassic franchise, it’s that people are going to go out and buy a hundred tickets each to see this movie and that they honestly don’t care too much about, say, ’70s-style scummy sexism clogging the film’s pores as long as you get that raptor-on-raptor fix. Ian Malcolm’s back, though, so we guess we’ll have to get excited about this anyways.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits theaters on June 22. At least Colin Trevorrow isn’t directing.
