We’ve long admired the songwriting style and smarts of Chris Moreno. The Boston musician has crafted an impressive catalog of melodic, hook-laden pop-rock, and as he gravitates toward more of a country-leaning sound, the style seems to suit him just fine. Moreno is gearing up to release a new EP, Into The Night, this May, and as a teaser has dropped the record’s first single, a saccharine bit of pop called “It Was You” that has traces of Nashville all over it. And well, there’s a reason for that, beyond that masterful slide guitar. “Recorded down in Nashville by producer Jonathan Roye, this song is a bittersweet one for me and probably my most personal yet,” Moreno says. “It wrote it at a time when I was struggling to move on from a relationship that had ended but still had a lot of good. For me, this one’s about choosing to celebrate the good moments rather than focus on the bad.” More good moments are on the way come May, when Moreno parties with The Outlaw Roadshow for his EP release at Sally O’Brien’s in Somerville.
